DOGgone FASHION

Leisure ware for dogs
doggievogue.com

I was looking for fashionably warm clothes for Kiki.  Who just recently got her summer hair cut and has been freezing ever since.  Freezing in California? I know... it's ridiculous.  None the less, I think I've found something even more ridiculous.  Leisure ware for pets.  When I saw these pants, I absolutely cracked up.  Don't get me wrong, I love a good fashion statement... but this one took the cake.  In case you're interested you can buy these soft velour sweatpants, with double pockets and an elasticized velcro waistband at doggievogue.com. ~April

NATURAL...HOMEMADE...Beauty Secrets!

  • Cindy Crawford skin care secrets include keeping her famous face moisturized by mixing equal parts of whole (full fat) milk and mineral water. She keeps this concoction in a spray bottle and sprays her face several times throughout the day for extra moisture.
This is a great tip to use during winter months -- when our skin feels extra tight and dry.
  • Jennifer Love Hewitt helps get rid of pimples and blemishes by applying a dab of toothpaste to the zit and let it sit overnight.
  • Daisy Fuentes has a quick weight loss trick of drinking one liter of chamomile tea and one liter of water daily-- the combination accelerates fat burning!
  • Catherine Zeta-Jones rubs a small amount of castor oil to keep her hair shiny. She also keeps her teeth shiny and white by using a bi-weekly homemade tooth paste. She mashes up strawberries and mixes it with a small amount of baking soda. Strawberries are a natural whitener as is baking soda.
  • Michelle Yeoh rinses her face with lemon juice and water. This helps to tighten pores and even skin tone. Applying lemon juice to a cotton ball can help reduce skin spots and it’s great for the oily T-zone area.
  • Nicole Kidman rinses her hair with cranberry juice to help maintain the beautiful red color.
  • Julia Roberts soaks her nails in olive oil and warm water to keep them in shape.
  • Susan Lucci snacks on sardines because their omega-3 fatty acids are essential for smooth skin.

August 08, 2010 was our 7th Wedding Anniversary.  We wanted to go where we met and fell in love, which is downtown San Diego.  When we were first married, we lived in a loft condo in downtown and absolutely loved living there.  There is a nice vibe that you feel when coming off of the 163 West and entering the downtown area.  We also decided to go to Seaport Village.  This is a quaint tourist area, where you always find something different and interesting.  While we were there, we came across a mime who called herself "The Living Music Box." She was miming to the Titanic soundtrack, with the Pacific Ocean in the background, it was amazing.  If you ever get a chance to stop by Seaport Village in San Diego, California watch for her it's a memorable experience. ~April

TEA with AMIN USMAN

Amin Usman and April Leffingwell

Today, I met with Amin Usman a very well known boutique owner in San Diego.  As I walked into his amazingly rustic, contemporary boutique... the first thing he asks is... "would you like some tea?"  This is so different than any other meeting I've ever had.  There is no such thing as a meeting with Amin Usman, without sharing a warm, friendly tea together.  This is just one of the many wonderful things about working with Amin.  He is not only a very savy boutique owner, he is warm, genuine, and truly interested in helping me grow my business.
As I was showing him all of my SHEA CHIC products, his response was amazing.  He not only loved my products, he loved the packaging and presentation.  He began to share with me ideas of how I could grow my business and take SHEA CHIC to new levels.  I left our meeting, excited for the future and ready to make lots of products to full the order. If you ever have an opportunity to share tea with Amin Usman, you are only lucky person! ~April

PINK!

PINK... saying BRING IT!
buzzworthy.mtv.com

Today, I was driving to the post office with some special customer deliveries, when one of my favorite artists came on the radio... PINK! I put the top down, turned the radio up, and sang my heart out.
I fell in love with PINK, when she was going through her break-up with her husband, super hot motocross biker Carey Hart. Seriously, do they get any hotter than this guy? I was working at the radio station at the time and was working in my cubicle when the song "Please, don't leave me" came on my radio station.  Sitting in my lonely cubicle, wanting to be any place other than where I was at... I stopped and listened to the lyrics of this song.  They were so raw with emotion and her pain was so powerful.  I could imagine her, reaching out to Carey actually saying this to him. This wasn't a song for us, she was talking to him!
I like PINK's music because she brings out my sassy side.  You know the "bring it on" attitude.  PINK's music empowers me and brings out the strong, fiesty, female side of my personality and I like it.  I really fell in love with PINK when I saw her perform at the Grammy's.  I've attached a youtube link below.  If you didn't see this performance, you need to stop what you're doing, take 5 minutes and experience this! You won't feel the same about PINK after you see this performance.  You too, may fall in love, like I did with the artist PINK!

EVERYBODY just wants to be HEARD!

After such a crazy, busy, wonderful Grand Opening, my body (back, hip) and mind needed an afternoon off.  I came in from the shop and turned on one of my favorite guilty pleasures...Oprah! As she went to commercial, a promotional segway came on about Oprah and what she's learned in all of her years on television. Her message resonated with me and here's what she said...
"People want to be heard. Every human being, no matter what age, no matter how old we get... is looking for the same thing.  What everybody wants is to know... Do you see me? Did you hear me? and Did what I say mean anything to you? That is what everybody is looking for!"
I could't agree more.  No matter what ethnicity, background, color or origin, we just want to be acknowledged and know that others hear us. Oprah, I hear you! ~April
