SHEA CHIC is located in San Diego, California and is a woman-owned, small business run by me, April Leffingwell.  All my life I have enjoyed fashion and decorating.  I've always been drawn to colors and the powerful connection they have over our spirit and attitude.  I began making soap and body products when I hurt my back.  I was unable to walk for a period of time and that meant no shopping. It also meant no shopping sprees to my local body luxuries shop.  At that time, the only enjoyment I had was when my husband would surprise me with a wonderful lotion or bath product, and wow, was that a treat.

One day, I attempted to place an order for a body lotion that I ran out of and was accidentally taken to a very informative website, explaining all of the ingredients that were in the body lotion that I was just about to purchase.  It was an awakening to say the least.  I didn't realize all the health risks that were associated with the chemicals that are added to these mass-produced products.  I have always heard the risks, but I was too busy to stop and really pay attention. Looking back, I'm glad that I was forced to stop moving and start listening.

I began paying more attention to what I was putting in and on my body.  I now want a healthier product alternative, but I also want bright color and designer fragrances. I could find one or the other, but I never found them together. I want the whole package. I decided if I couldn't find it, then I would make it.

This led me to the amazing craft of artisan soap making.  I discovered a craft that is allowing me to create beautifully colored soaps, with amazing designer fragrances that are made from top of the line exotic butters and rich oils that my body (and yours), deserves.  I am taking control of what is being put on my skin, and I am able to still enjoy the beautiful fragrances that I have always enjoyed, without the health risks.

This has become a passion for me and the rest is history.
